Books To Go
In our continuous efforts to enhance education and promote literacy, we recently organized a Training Workshop on the 27th-28th of June for the groundbreaking Books To Go project. This initiative aims to revolutionize education at Selonga Primary School by equipping it with 2000 diverse, brand new books, along with 200 Satchels to conveniently transport these valuable resources. By implementing this project, we strive to empower the school with the necessary tools to deliver education effectively during school closures and enable students to cultivate a love for reading and learning both in school and at home.
Objectives
One of the primary objectives of the Books To Go project is to establish a library book resource at Selonga Primary School. This resource will consist of an organized collection of English and local language books, ensuring accessibility for both learners and teachers. By providing a wide range of books, we aim to foster a vibrant reading culture within the school community, enriching students’ knowledge and expanding their horizons.
Secondly, to promote regular reading habits, the project seeks to introduce a dedicated ‘Reading Hour’ or ‘Library Lesson’ into the school timetable. This structured period will enable students to engage in reading activities on a regular basis throughout the week. By dedicating specific time to reading, we aim to instill a lifelong passion for learning and empower students with the skills necessary to succeed academically and beyond.
Establishing a Well-Run Book Lending System is another crucial aspect of the Books To Go project. This system will allow students to borrow books from the library, fostering a sense of ownership and encouraging independent learning. By implementing an efficient book lending process, we aim to ensure that students have convenient access to a wide range of books, promoting self-directed learning and supporting their educational journey.
Last but not least, through specialized training and workshops, we aim to equip these dedicated educators with the necessary skills and confidence to run the lending system efficiently and manage the library effectively. By enhancing their capabilities, we seek to create an environment that nurtures a love for reading and provides invaluable support to students on their educational path.
In conclusion, the Books To Go project at Selonga Primary School represents a transformative endeavor aimed at revolutionizing education and promoting literacy. By establishing a comprehensive library book resource, integrating a dedicated reading hour, implementing a well-run book lending system, and developing the skills of teacher-librarians, we strive to create an enriched educational experience for students. Through these initiatives, we aspire to cultivate a love for reading, empower students with knowledge, and ensure access to educational resources both within the school and beyond.
